Did you have a look at the bores while the head was off?   and how were they ?

..............Dave

12 - 15,000 hours ?

Still in good nick, Compression test showed an average of 325 psi after the head had been overhauled,  Which Beta tell me is good average for this engine.

Seems Beta have noted this and now have a remote filter kit.

Fitted one of these to the 1505 in our boat. Bit of a mare to fit with the engine in-situ, we have a modern trad stern so access to the mounting point was a little tricky, but remote filter now fitted where I can get to it without any contortions and the filter is vertical, so much less chance of sloshing oil around.

Excellent bit of kit.

A big problem is that narrowboats are not good for diesels, diesels like to work hard, lots of light load/almost tickover running is not good for them.

That’s what I’ve always thought: diesels like to be worked hard and in a narrowboat they won’t unless perhaps going up River at full welly.

I have no idea how many hours my engine has done, there is no counter and no history came with it.
