Judging by the number of hire boats tied up on their home moorings not much of a boom in worcestershire and Staffordshire  this week. Hard for them given their short season. 10 tied at alvechurch when we came through.

It may have been their change-over day.

There were quite a few Oxfordshire and Napton hire boats through Cropredy last weekend.

You will find that many were booked solid until the end of the season until Matt Hancock dropped his ridiculous bubble of 6(of is it rule of half dozen) two weeks ago. The longer boats bookings had to be cancelled by the hire companies, otherwise they faced up to £10k fines for each one for organising an illegal group meeting.

There are 2 70 foot ABC boats out of Gayton this week with just couples on board.

Wrenbury were at over 380% their normal September booking levels last week.  Just about all their boats were out. All of Chas Harden's boats were out, ABC at Whitchurch was pretty much empty, tons of Anglo-Welsh boats out, with their base at Banbury being pretty empty when we went past.

I don't know about hire boats as there are none around here but boat sales have certainly seen a boom season.

Not a lot left to pick over at the brokerages near us. Boats that had  been for sale a long while due to needing some TLC or being somewhat overpriced seem to have  been sold.  Some brand new boats that had been sitting unsold well over a year have all now gone.

Could they have all been one household?

Well possibly. Would be strange though 4 men 4 women all 50s and 60 s.

Maybe a commune?

Brilliant. They need the business

They can be hired for a overnight,

Yup, a few Broads yards have so called 'day boats' that have overnight accomodation.

Or ones that are hired to accompany hiring riverside accommodation.

Hired a day boat 2 weeks ago from ABC at Hilperton.

I have since received offers for boating holidays in NOVEMBER.

Lots of places are extending their 'season' to try and recoup losses from earlier in the year.

But lots also run through the autumn/winter normally.

Its actually a good time to go boating.

I retire in 2 years and will be looking to buy my first narrowboat.

Hopefully (for me) many of the newbie owners that rushed out this year to buy a boat will have come to realise what owning and maintaining a boat costs in time and money and the novelty will have worn off making them consider selling, creating a buyer's market.

I hope......

All six of Foxes hireboats are out, as are the two dayboats

We've noticed a couple of hire boats in different livery (ABC?) going through here recently. Do Fox's sub-let berths to another company?

Is this a new base? We go through Banbury quite often but haven't noticed a hire=fleet base there (though one used to operate from Sovereign Wharf years ago)>

Two of their boats have been based at Foxes for the last three years.

I suspected as much, thanks for confirming.

But why? To take overflow bookings which Fox's can't accommodate? It seems odd to invite a rival company to share your marina.
