Boots'n'all
My narrow boat has a lister sr3 coupled to lh150 gearbox. Access is terrible to the gearbox I’m struggling to find the drain and lever plug
Tony Brooks
It may also have a reduction box on the end that is separate from the gearbox oil. Level DIP STICKS are on the starboard side of both boxes and have a fancy knob on top.The drain plugs are at the lowest point on each box in the centre and underneath the boxes. (Long time since I worked on one so I may be wrong about either location ). Don't mix the dip sticks up if you have a reduction box, many do. I think the long dipstick goes in the reduction box (I think)
Steve56
There is also a small drain plug in the aluminium adaptor which allows the last bit of oil to be removed from below the oil pump. Also the gearbox drain plug has a built in magnet which will need cleaning when removed.

Checking, surely? If it always needs bits of metal cleaning off then Bad ThingsTM are happening inside the gearbox!

I don't think I ever did an oil change on a Mini that did not have some metallic debris on the plug. A little bit of very dust like "mud" would not worry me but en equally small amount of gritty it would. Its a bit like looking after batteries in that you need to decide what is normal for your boat and then start to worry if it becomes abnormal. With those sun gears for reverse I don't think you will ever take a completely clean plug out.
