RickS
Morning I need at least one spare engine key - I only have a single key at present. My local Timpsons did not have a blank for it, so I wondered if it was a specialist thing. The engine is a Lister Petter LPWS4. Would welcome advice about where to go to get spares - steady ? WotEver
Is it the 'standard' JCB type key? In which case, an agricultural merchant. Or eBay.
Rob-M
Did the key have a number stamped on it, I just googled the number on our Vetus key and came up with a number of sellers.
RickS
Rob-M - Didn't even see the number at first! I googled it and a couple of security companies in my area came up so I will try those, thank you. But, in general, the number produced results ranging from a Suzuki motorbike lock (not the same) to model railway parts on Amazon ! ? Wotever - to be honest I wouldn't know a JCB key if it jumped up and bit me ? but I will look at agricultural merchants in the area and see if they can shed light on it - good suggestion One step nearer - thanks for the suggestions
bizzard
If you make an impression of it in a bar of soap you might be able to find an old WW2 POW from Colditz that can make you one, they were good at locks. Quote

If it is a simple JCB type of key it would be easy to make one yourself if your handy with small files.
Machpoint005
The OP could always change the ignition lock for one that offers some security. He'd get two spanking new keys with it. Edited August 31, 2020 by Machpoint005 fat fingers
Jen-in-Wellies
Most boats could be hot wired in seconds. I'm not convinced a more sophisticated key would make any difference.
Machpoint005
Fairy Nuff. I often wonder why a key is needed in the first place, when a secret switch would work just as well!
RickS
I have pasted a photo of the key as I'm not sure about whether it is a JCB key or not - certainly don't feel confident enough to file one myself ? Could change the lock - good point - I'll keep that in the bag if I can't get new keys. Ta
Machpoint005
The secret switch woud be inside the boat somewhere, and thus behind whatever security measures were in place for the cabin.
RickS
If some one could tell me how to insert images that aren't the size of a planet, that would be good ? - or is it just a case of starting off with a smaller image ?
Machpoint005
That always helps! It's fine for those of us using a proper computer instead of a pocket telephone though.

springy
looks like the one on a friends lpws3, IIRC the panel is a VDO item badged/manufactured for lister petter - so maybe a l-p parts supplier could help springy

Ray T
Bit late to the party but our Lister key is different to yours Rick. A while ago our rev clock stopped working and I could not find another clock for love nor money. Eventually I found a panel at Streethay Chandlery , on The Coventry Canal. Our ignition key fits both the panel on the boat and the secondhand one I purchased. Edited August 31, 2020 by Ray T
