Anyway - its a drain to clear the British weather (when we get some) away.

Onl fitted by top quality manufacturers...

Have they got holes behind them?

 

They look like vents or drains to me.

One solution to aid drainage from the channels is to insert something into the drainage holes to aid capillary action. The thin plastic stuff that fastens labels to new clothing is ideal for this. Insert the T end and trim off so it isn't too obvious. Leave in place. One label will do 2 windows!
