I have met him more than once and had beer with him and indeed in real life hes a fine chap.

Yes deffo cannot tell how people are by their postings.

I still maintain that those who I argue with on here I would get on fine with irl.

As an example my mum posts stuff on facebook, every now and then it's a terribly political one sided irrational view and totally opposite to what her sons views are!

I don't get the blocking thing. Join a discussion forum, you'll hear different views on things, that's what it's all about, surely? My best guess is that those who block people are regular Guardian or Daily Mail readers, who rarely read anything else.

I block people who are rude and who play the man.

All are people I hopefully will never have to suffer in real life.

I think its a good feature if used sparingly... I got two in my list ... one person I blocked because I have nothing to learn from him/her(weird childish posts which I can ignore if he/she has very good boat related knowledge).. the other person is mutually blocked (so I can avoid replying by mistake)

if anybody blocks me, I would appreciate if I am told about it... (and I extend the same courtesy to people I block)

Spot on, read some daft paper that they agree with and learn nothing,  and block people as they have no valid answers or anything to debate.

Reading the Guardian keeps you regular... anyway, it's an unusual paper as it seems to welcome contributions from political writers that disagree with it's usual tone, and the web pages don;t hide behind a paywall.  I think most Grauniad readers (of which Ive been one for years) happily read other papers too - I used to get the Sunday Times for balance until it became unhinged.  Jeremy Clarkson used to write a seriously good column in there many years ago.  But the Guardian has the best (ie hardest) crosswords.

I think I've only ever blocked two people, one for style and one for content!

I read the guardian cause it's the only free one on line that downloads fast enough.

Does it matter?

I think does actually. They come over here and stir things up and then return and slag off CWDF. They have a specific board for this purpose called CWDF.  Over 10k posts in there last time I looked.

If you mapped those posts over time you’d see them trending to zero. TB was born out of the fallout on CWDF so it’s no surprise it was talked about. Lots of water under the bridge since then and most people that are on both post without problem. There’s a few on both who seemingly can’t let it go, but that’s not helpful to anyone. If you don’t like the place and you are not a member, simply don’t go there.

I suggest you ask the mods to ban Thunderboat, then you would be happy. Oh wait a minute, they can’t. How annoying and frustrating for you that you can’t silence people you don’t approve of! You might just have to get over it.

I expect you don’t like those pesky immigrants either, who come over here and stir things up. I seem to recall there is a name for that sort of thing.

Like you Nick I am on both forums and they provide entertainment and information, some people really do need to grow up or grow a pair! Instead of slagging other forums off

There's not a lot of activity on their CWDF thread. I think they got bored with it. There's not a great deal of activity anywhere on TB, and most is the same few people (like it is on our political bit). I nip over every now and then to see if anything interesting is happening, and come back here because not much there interests me. I see no reason why people can't belong to any forum they want - if anyone breaks our rules they get booted off. No problem. I miss the knowledge of one member, but none of the rest have much of interest to say apart from occasional whinges about CRT or slinging (usually good-humoured) abuse at each other.

So are you saying I'm making it up ?  Your last couple of sentences are a figment of your imagination, where do you get these ideas from?

I suggested early on that the cwdf section on TB be removed as it was pointless and slightly aggrevating.

If you have a look at it you'll see it's virtually dead as a subforum.

Thunderboat itself is alive and kicking as a forum where you can be rude if you want to but generally people have worked out that being rude is not productive.

A bit of a giggle at times but basically not conducive to positive outcomes .

I used to look at at TB occasionally because there were more boating photos, but that has now been fixed on CWF. My internet favourite thread.

I am taking a break from posting in the politics section here for a while, as really the paths have been set until the next election some years away so little meaningful can be challenged.

Our own election in seven weeks is much more relevant.

Yes to the first sentence. Well, can you cite any actual evidence to support your accusation?

As to the second sentence, throughout history people have looked to strangers/foreigners/blacks/Jews etc to blame for their own self-induced problems and that is exactly what you are doing, albeit in the “virtual world”.

'Over there' the slagging off of this forum is/was done on a dedicated board, and I'm sure elsewhere throughout. 'On here' the slagging off of TB is sprinkled throughout various boards and threads. Really nothing to get all high and mighty about.

There's always something to criticise or we'd have achieved nirvana and vanished up our own sterngear. Some people like to stir, some like to respond, most ignore the nonsense. Room for everything. The more interest in waterways the better.

You know as well as I do what's on the TB CWCF board. I could copy & paste over the vile and derogatory posts regarding Daniel, the owner of this forum if you want evidence. However you already know what I'm talking about so don't try and deflect from my post with references to Jews & foreigners, it does you no credit.

Indeed, and there are quite a few from over on the dark side that are on this forum too, Any guesses which ones ? A few are very obvious.

OOps! I saw the dates of the recent posts but a return to such an old thread is so unusual I did not look further. Just trying to be helpful . . .

So, I'd better add to the group best wishes to said member.

“Vile and derogatory” posts about Daniel came from people who were summarily excommunicated from CWDF in a period of CWDF tyranny. Or the Great Cull, as we like to call it. Some of those people probably deserved their fate but many didn’t. TB arose out of that. It therefore can’t be surprising that he came in for a slagging. Behaviour breeds behaviour and if you make people feel aggrieved, it’s likely to bounce back at you.

However this was not your original point, which was that the bad behaviour purported to be extant on here, was at least in part the fault of people from TB posting on here. And yet your evidence now is that it is what they post on TB that offends you. This is a completely different point and just goes to show that you have no evidence to support your original stance. If you don’t like what you read on TB (and actually, as has been said, TB has mostly “got over” the Great Cull) then here’s an idea which you perhaps haven’t thought of - don’t read it!

Or is it actually the case that you lie in bed surreptitiously scanning every line of TB desperate to find something to be outraged about in order to get a thrill? Well whatever floats your boat, but personally I prefer looking at porn.
