Hurth hbw 50 gearbox overfilled.

PRM80 is now replaced by PRM90, same mountings a size, better clutch cone.  Searching I found Calcutt to be the best prices usually for PRM gearboxes and rapid delivery too.

The Hurth 50 on my 1987 Ericson 32 Mark III began slipping. In researching ATF I read that Type F ATF has a better friction holding aspect than the Hurth specified Type A ATF. I changed the lubricant from Type A to Type F and the slipping has stopped occurring. This simple action might be worth a try before resorting to a significantly more major repair on slipping Hurth 50 marine transmissions.

Wonderful. I fear, though, that the cure may be temporary.

You may be correct that this may be a temporary fix. Only time will tell (with fingers crossed). Will report further on this thread if slipping begins to reoccur.
