Gas cooker flame

We have a Spinflo HB14000 6kW hob with four gas burners and a Country Leisure Midi Prima 3.1kW oven with a separate grill on our narrow boat.

 

We find the gas oven is difficult to keep alight even though it has flame failure protection. We also find the oven setting needs to be low to prevent burning food.

 

Does anyone have suggestions to prevent this or install a different oven?

What is the maximum flow rate the gas bottle regulator is capable of? What is the pipe diameter and length from the gas locker to the cooker? Perhaps the system cannot flow enough gas to keep it alight.

 

All flame failure protection does is shut off the gas if the flame goes out. It doesn't prevent the flame from going out. A slightly misleading name. If you don't smell unburnt gas when it goes out, then it is working properly.

If the tip of the thermocouple is not int he outer blue cone of the flame, it will shut the gas off.

If the oven is cooking too hot, does the flame modulate down when the oven is up to the set temperature? If it stays at full gas, the thermostat phial is either not in the oven cavity or the stat is faulty.

If the flame modulates OK but the oven is over temperature the thermostat can be adjusted. Usually there is a tint adjuster screw inside the stat spindle when the knob is removed.

Screw in to decrease the set temperature, a little bit at a time giving the oven and the thermometer you are using time to settle.

One common problem if you don't use the boat often is spiders setting up home in the flame spreader in the oven it is just the right size in their eyes for a cosy nest. They go away but their clump of web doesn't and this causes uneven flame spread leading to the sort of problems you say you are getting.
