To be fair to Wigan lots of places are looking less than their normal best after 3 months of 'lockdown'.

Town centres like our High Street have looked depressingly grim for weeks. All the pubs, restaurants and cafes shut up, with shutters and laminated  'we are closed until further notice' signs in the windows.

Thank goodness for some inching towards normality, not the 'new normal' either which idiot came up with that one.?

Last year the impression was that the ground paddles had been deliberately disabled.

To prevent the pound above being drawn down to quickly?

The busted ground paddles and leaking tailgate at Henhurst meant the lock was filled very slowly, meanwhile losing water from the pound above.  All the more so if only one gate paddle was used.

No, they were just broken.  They actually made Henhurst Lock dangerous to use as the baffles were missing off the gate paddles.  Fortunately nobody came a cropper in the lock before it was fixed last year.

Definitely dangerous, plus the lock below by the drydock only one ground paddle working, naturally the one on the wrong side.
