These latches are not the most secure type of latch. Mine, after years of use has become loose. A good thump on the window and it falls over.

This is my solution. The fixing at the top is deep to allow the rod to be lifted and removed. Also has the advantage of lying against the glass  vertical piece, don't know its official name.

True, but look closely at the OP's picture. There is a small hole in the metal next to the latch; that is exactly the same as we have. A small self-tapping screw through that hole makes it totally secure, and it takes just 2 or 3 seconds to insert or remove it because it can be a sufficiently loose fit that no screwdriver is required. We just put the screw in place whenever we leave the boat.

Ah, didn't notice that. Mine has no hole!

But where can you buy a box of holes? I ordered some but they disappeared in the post.............but maybe they all joined together as the box was empty!

TD'

I tried to buy half a hole once. The hole-sailors said they thought it was impossible but would look into it.

My 1963 Moggy Minor traveller (woody) had something very similar to 'lock' the rear part of the side sliding windows. A Morris Minor repair specialist or a scrap yard might just be the place to look.

Yes they did!  Well remembered.  I think early Minis did too, for the sliding front windows.
