Isleham lock (river Lark) closed

Hi,

 

Isleham lock on river Lark has been closed for mechanical failure. Closure should last until 30th June. According to the chaps from EA clearing some weed nearby, it could be even longer before it opens.

It's a bit odd, only a couple of years I think since another emergency stoppage when the chains failed a safety inspection. It's a bit hard to see what else could cause such a sudden decision??

Apparently, one of the bearings on the guillotine was showing signs of wear on inspection. Getting the spare parts (according to EA) is what takes time in this case.

Let's just hope it will be repaired soon as I am currently stuck on the other side and need to go to do my boat's blacking.

That's bad luck. It's a nice little stretch above the lock, but that's not a lot of use!

Update: Isleham lock open again.

Hopefully, EA will tackle now the moorings in Prickwillow, as it was shut over 2 years due to asbestos in the railings.

I think not floating, but new decking on new piles.

Could not resist and drove there to have a look. You are right, not floating, but nice ones which could last forever.
