First boat passes through the Boston barrier.

Featured Posts

In what marks a major milestone for the £100m Environment Agency project, boats can safely navigate the barrier and the first vessels will be passing through sometime this afternoon.

The Boston Barrier is expected to be fully operational by the end of the summer.

That is speedy work. Here's a photo taken a year ago, looking in the opposite direction (downstream), with the construction underway behind the coffer dam. The remaining task is to fill in this temporary channel (on the left in this photo).

The Witham  was in flood at the time, and the white water effects at certain stages of the ebb tide were quite something - this temporary channel was about one third of the normal width of the river.
