Touch and hold at the desired location drops a pin on an Android tablet. Try that.

 

Edit - this is maps not Earth. Earth doesn't seem to allow a dropped pin to be saved.

The only version of Google Earth that has full functionality for adding placemarks, polygons and paths is Google Earth Pro, and that is only available for PC, Mac or Linux.

And iirc the Pro version also permits you to download and use animation imagery commercially.  It's what we used to use on The Gadget Show and Fifth Gear. (We may have paid extra for that, I can't remember).
