Boot Wharf, Nuneaton, 1981

Featured Posts

Two photos from January 1981, when Boot Wharf was the home of both Magpie Line and Nautocraft.

Nautocraft had been in business since 1962 and closed in 1988. They ran a very well stocked chandlery shop and manufactured and sold GRP row dinghies and small speedboats such as the yellow one on the right of the second photo.

Nautocraft originally had a hire fleet of their own. Bespoke marine ply 30ft+ cruisers and a couple of Dolphin 16ft forward  cockpit cruisers.

The elderly couple that ran it were hilarious, he mended outboards apparently in the bar of The Boot Inn, and she couldn't remember the price of anything until she'd come out and looked at your boat first.  Presumably to evaluate how much money you had.  Fantastic times back in the 60s.
