has anyone any recommendations for WiFi on a boat please?

Or if you are just an occasional boater, use your phone as a mobile hotspot. No extra kit needed.

I use a ''3'' Wi Fi mobile dongle, E5330Bs-6,  £10 for 20 Gorillabites per month, contract. Brilliant, works anywhere and several machines at once if you want.

Living on board, get a 3 Unlimited data sim, huawei B525 router or similar, and a small roof mounted 4g aerial.

External aerial makes a huge huge difference, go for a high gain aerial with an unlocked dongle inside (most take external aerials some don't) Choose the dongle first, as there are two types of aerial connector they look almost identical but they don't fit each other and are too small to change. Use whatever sim takes your fancy then depends where you are usually 3 is good O2 can be patchy as can EE. When outside cities, out in the countryside, don't expect blistering fast, but it is only odd days I get nothing usually because the canal is in a deep valley.
