Halsall normally has a tank with it in bulk if thats easier

My first canal holiday was in 1976 with Black Prince when a group of us hired the entire original fleet of two boats. One had loos that pumped sewage out of the bottom of the boat into the canal. The other had  chemical loos, and came with a spade that the owner said was for emergency use. If both the loos got full and we could not find a sanitary station, we were told to dig a hole at  the edge of the towpath and bury the contents in it. That was the year of the drought, and due to navigation being severely limited by the restricted lock opening hours, we actually had to do so mid-week.
