I am having a busy day (arranging flowers that have been delivered, making bread for my bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich for lunch, icing a cake, setting up my new Fitbit and "conquering" the south face of the stairs to test it out) 

 

I think I am completely up to date with the emails (at least I was 10 minutes ago so there are only likely to be another 30 new emails in there) 

 

I have to confit my duck this afternoon for tonight's dinner ....

 

and I have not had a chance to read your lovely cruise logs since last night so.... I am going to go and catch up with them and so if you get random notifiations for posts you made hours ago I apologise. 

 

Ia going to unfollow the cruise logs to reduce the amount of email notifications coming in so if you need my attention please tag me in

I'm new here at team "Grand Marnier's Stern Gland".Thrust upon me today was to answer the 
Y̶a̶w̶n̶i̶t̶h̶o̶l̶o̶g̶y̶  bird watching questions. I Hope this is the right place to post the answers. Did I mention, I'm new here? Anyway, here they are (No copying them, ok):

Answers:

1.Marple Aqueduck - Famous as the film location of the popular TV series Miss Marple. Built to carry the Peak Forest Canal over the river Goyt.

2.Nantwich Aquaduck - An infamous location for burning suspected witches in the 18th century. Every school boy must surely remember the Nantwich Witch Trials which took place here. The suspected witches were often weighed, and If they weighed the same as a duck, they were considered to be witches, and burned, hence the term aquaduck was born. Designed by Thomas Telford in around 1826.

3.Pontcysyllte Aquaduck. People have been arguing how to say this one since it was built. Another of Telfords. Completed in 1805 to Carrie the Llangollen Canal over the river Dee. Not open to Lauries.

4.Stanley Ferry Quackqueduck - Built by Laurie and Hardy in 1914. It is one of the earliest through arch bridges in the world, and is considered to be the longest span Quackqueduck executed in cast iron. The design has been copied as far a field as the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

5.Rea Aquaduck (Rhea). Another double barrelled-bird answer, so double points for this please. This one was built by Chirs Rea in 1989 to carry the infamous “Road to Hell", and later used to carry the Leominster (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) Canal over the river Rea. Oh, that was Dire.

6.Yarningale Aqueduct. A popular location for families to swap stories, particularly busy in times of stormy weather. On the Startford Upon Avon Canal, it spans the Kingswood brook.

7.Three Bridges Quackerduck. Known as Windmill Bridge, this quackerduck was designed by Isambard Kindom Brunel. A windmill used to stand nearby, from which a family of mice and a windy miller were forcibly evicted, and the windmill demolished in order to build this Quackerduck

8. Loon (Lune) aquaduck. Kill two bird with one stone with this answer. Completed by the moon brothers, Alfie and Harvey in 1797 at a cost of £48,320

9.Store Street Aqueduct. Built by John James Sainsbury in 1869, included a shop to sell goods to passing canal boats.

 

10.Edstone Quackquaduck. The summer home of Edson the duck, though he spends winter months nesting beneath the Pont Du Gard <Insert your own picture of Ed the duck here, cos I can't be bothered>

Well I have to say, as we start to add the running scores into our master spreadsheet it is VERY obvious that there is a great deal of competition among some of the teams and there are some remarkably close scores at the close of day one.

 

Our panel have advised that they are worn out already BUT they have thoroughly enjoyed reading your logs.

 

Which logs scored in the top 3 yesterday will remain a closely guarded secret until the end of the week - this gives a chance for others to catch up. Each day your log is judged afresh so keep that content coming, the panel are loving the imagination, the historical details and the photos. They are also enjoying the food references and the animals.

 

Here are a few of their comments from yesterday's logs:

 

• Steaming Behind for the boat design with steam engine, tea plantation and brewery. Brilliant!
• Team Rebellion – loved the William in the ice and frozen duck pix
• Urban Moorings log, particularly for the 'Idle Women' excerpt.
• The Workers for the excellent upside down full English which I really enjoyed.
• Whisky Galore as I like the name, the film, the drinks shown. Also extra points for the steam launch pic.
• Firefly, I loved the cold weather gear pic.
• Indigo Dreamers – who could not give bonus points to Harmony, Alex & Saffy. Also bonus points for the catering
• Styxl  for the wooden boat repairs Can I also award a trillion points for pic of Ian Mac in scarves?

Each of these teams has been awarded a bonus point by our panel - very well done to everyone

I think we should all be awarded bonus points if we manage to explain to anyone how a virtual challenge works. Our famiy and friends are aware that we are wappy but seem unable to grasp the concept of the challenge.

I did actually miss out one of the comments, I was asked that as everything in your log was backwards would any points awarded be deducted from your score rather than added to it

How do we know if we need to catch up if the scores are a secret?
