Being a complete numpty as far as bird ID can any one help

Spotted yesterday, biggish bird black with white bands on the underside of the wings, crest on its head and I think white patch on its chest.

Single note call repeated 3 times

On a stubble field

@Dr Bob and anyone else who knows these sort of things.

Thank you

Sounds like a penguin to me. ?

Fairly unlikely to be an oystercatcher as they like mudflats! coastal and tidal areas - a stubble field is where you would most likely find curlew nesting

When we took the land boat to Wick, Caithness a few years ago now we stopped at Scone van site for a couple of days, to break the journey.

Admittedly we weren't too far from the River Tay, but every day half dozen or so Oyster Catchers regularly visited the camp site.

No crest.

Unless it was wearing a hat, perhaps.

Could have been a Rockhopper.

That's a cockatoo, so doesn't sound much like a carrot.

Its a member of the carrot family.

A pangolin is a bit like a cross between Higgs and TWC.

Look you lot I though we had this ID sorted as a LBJ and now whilst I sleep I find it's some sort of

Trump/carrot/pangolin hybrid with a Crest made of highly polished teeth that plays some sort of rare and esoteric stringed instrument.

Come on what is the bloody bird!
