Macclesfield Repair

Just seen the notice from CaRT that they have completed the repair between Bridges 2 & 3 only a week after the last notice that referred to the Ground Penetrating Radar Survey and that repairs would start as soon as possible. Also says it would need specialist contractors.

A pleasant surprise to see it now done quickly - shame no-one can take advantage! However, just interested from a technical point of view:

(a) what did the survey tell them

(b) what repair was needed, how was it done?

(c) any photos?

Hole/leak.

Grout injection.

No sorry.

All the above is purely a guess, apart from the bit about me not having any photos of it!

I would have thought that it was at least suspected that it was a bit more complicated than a simple hole as the Survey took some time and would have made the project more expensive. Hence my enquiry.

So we all 'could' now get through on the boats we can't use to visit the places and pubs that aren't open. In all seriousness though good to see it reopened.

As an aside to this, Cadent (gas) were doing lots of work near bridge 3 for the last few months, Goyt mill area. Possibly ground movement problems? No idea, just seemed a coincidence every time I waited to go through the temporary lights there, knowing the canal below was shut.
