OldGoat
Do you not have an instruction book with the engine? Failing that .... 15/40 is the modal oil for that type of engine and yes, car type filters are OK Somebody more helpful may be along shortly with specific deiatls.... WotEver
A 10 second Google found: http://www.canaline-engines.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Canaline-Operators-Handbook-CE-Version-3870T.pdf From that manual: Oil Capacity 8 litres Engine Oil Selection Engines Plus Ltd recommends oil to the following specifications… API CC or CD specification is used in Canaline 38, 42, 52 & 60 Marine engines. API CH is used in Canaline 70T Marine engines. Either 10W/40 or 10W/30 is acceptable for temperate climates. Do NOT use Synthetic or Semi-Synthetic Oils in Canaline Marine engines. The correct grade oil is available from your local marine dealer. • 5 litres API CC 10W/40 – EPL Part No - EP710008 - CL38~60 • 25 litres API CC 10W/40 – EPL Part No - EP710009 – CL38~60 • 5 litres API CH-4 15W/40 – EPL Part No - EP710560 – CL70T ONLY • 25 litres API CH-4 15W/40 – EPL Part No - EP710561 – CL70T ONLY Edited March 28, 2020 by WotEver Added the excerpt
Movin' on
Not quite sure why a wide beam service is any different to any other - might I suggest you substitute "boat" for "wide beam" and you might get more help - just trying to post a helpful thought...…………...as you are new...……...you don't need to get caught up in the wide beam debate esp as you are in the right place anyway? Oh and welcome to the forum - its a good way to reduce boredom - you might find the free waterways world mag link posted elsewhere useful - I'm not clever enough to post it here for you...…... I rushed to make a further comment and THEN I noticed the last line above which was already in bold. I'm not aware that you can -generally -buy 10/40 or 10/30 which is not semi symthetic. The reason is that in light duty applications the synth additive will polish the cylinder bores with the result that your engine will smoke (more than usual) - which is Not A Good Thing. Halfords, supemarkets / WHY sell oils for cars and not for boats.... Trust me, I worked in the oil industry.....

Welcome @Mr Clive, you will see you got your answer and a bit more. Normally followed by a bit of banter. You can try the search query too, usually something relevant if not specific.
