Someone needs to aerate the water.  The fish will use up all the oxygen otherwise.

I will bet they are closed down. What is essential about traveling to a canal boat for a holiday?

Sincerely hope they are. I cannot travel to my boat as it is not an essential journey and some marinas are stopping leisure moorers from visiting their boats. Seems ridiculous that there might still be companies hiring.

The were probably already out when the ban came in, we met a Rose Hire boat on Sunday

Sincerely hope that is the case. We all need to work together on this and hopefully save lives and reduce the time we are locked down. Mind you, it seem the Tubes in London were busy again......

That's a thorny problem. Many people still need to get to work in the London area. For a large proportion of them, the Tube is the most convenient, or even the only, option. But it is virtually impossible to keep six feet away from all one's fellow passengers, or indeed on the platform while awaiting the train's arrival. I hope that passengers are wearing masks.

and reducing the number of trains has made the problem worse!  It was supposed to put people off but if they have to go to work in the NHS and supermarkets they will still need to travel.

All very true. So, you have what is a hot bed of the virus, London, and seemingly you cannot isolate the individuals. What is the next logical step I wonder - lock London (and the like) away from  the rest.

  • Food shops

  • Health shops

  • Pharmacies including non-dispensing chemists

  • Petrol stations

  • Bicycle shops

  • Home and hardware stores

  • Laundrettes and dry cleaners

  • Post offices

  • Banks

It's a tough one to seem to be fair isn't it. Bicycle shops can stay open presumably for exercise but sports shops can't. Home base etc can presumably for leisure stuff to help with mental health but most other shops must shut down. Online shopping which was already killing lots of stores as they will grow hugely and many will stay doing it all online ehen this lot is over. Very tough times.

Those are the retail premises exceptions, not the list of the only businesses allowed to be open, but I think you knew that already and are just stirring.

What you have to remember is that if a Hire Company cancels the holiday the hirer gets their money back. If the company messes about so the hirer obeys government orders/advice and cancels their holiday its the hirer that looses all their money.

That nice Mr Ashley of Sports Direct fame owns Evans Cycles, they are now being called out for price gouging as they're inflating the prices of their Turbo Trainers by roughly £150. (to save you googling, it's a device you can hook your bike up to and enable you to train indoors).

No, I wasn't stirring but I see your point. The web site I took it from just says "What remains open" with no distinction between retail premises and businesses. Lets look at another way, this is a list of "Ordered to close" which is not a just list of retail premises.  I would say that Canal boat hire bases comes under the Caravan parks / Sites for commercial use but perhaps Wyvern saw it differently.

Ordered to close

  • Restaurants and cafes (exceptions: they can offer food delivery and takeaway)

  • Workplace canteens (exceptions: canteens in hospitals, care homes, schools, prisons and military canteens, services providing food or drink to the homeless)

  • Pubs

  • Bars and nightclubs including bars in hotels and members clubs

  • Hair, beauty and nail salons

  • Piercing and tattoo parlours

  • Massage parlours

  • Auction houses

  • Car showrooms

  • Caravan parks/sites for commercial use (exceptions: Parks where people live permanently or those used by people as interim abodes where their primary residence is not available)

  • Libraries

  • Playgrounds

  • Outdoor gyms

  • All shops selling non-essential goods including clothing and electronic stores.

  • Community centres, youth centres (exceptions: Halls may remain open to host essential voluntary or public services such as food banks and facilities for homeless people)

  • Churches, mosques and places of worship (exceptions – they can remain open for “solitary prayer”, funerals with social distancing – the mourners two metres apart and for live streaming)

  • Cinemas (exceptions: live-streaming of a performance if the group of workers exercise social distancing)

  • Museums and galleries

  • Bingo halls

  • Casinos and betting shops

  • Spas

  • Skating rinks

  • Gyms

  • Swimming pools

  • Playgrounds

  • Enclosed spaces in parks including tennis courts and pitches for football, bowling etc, and outdoor gyms (equipment could become contaminated by human touch)

  • Prisons in England and Wales are closed to visitors

Eh?

Vets are open.  They are not a retail shop, so not on the list of retail that can stay open.

You do need still need to feed your pets, The average supermarket or cornershop will only sell cat and dog food.

Evans Cycles in The Cut near the Old Vic used to nice well priced good service shop run by real cyclists until Mr Greed brought the brand name.

My dog is due her Kennel Cough vaccination but presumably that can wait -  I cannot use kennels if needs be (but doubt they are not open anyway). Presumably the Vet is there for emergencies though.

Just saw a subsequent post saying they are open.
