We loved Scarborough Harbour. It was a great stop for a couple of days. Bustling with activity during the day but lovely and quiet come night time.

That's one of my dogs! It looks like Gael who is sadly no longer with us. We were just talking the other day about the IWA festival at Burton on Trent which we attended on Gamebird. We took the dogs for a walk the first evening and she  disappeared at one point and we found her on board Copperkins our shared boat which was there with other owners. It amazed us how she became aware of the boat from quite a distance when there were hundred of boats there.

The Forth & Clyde Canal in 1962, and what became of it the following year. Yachts such as this could pass through without having the masts lowered, while fishing vessels also made extensive use. All bridges could be lifted or, more commonly, swung under electric power (unless the fuses blew -which in the last days they increasingly did did.

Dalmuir  Drop Lock F&C. The original  swing bridge here caused delays to traffic, was replaced by a wider fixed bridge, and the restoration project used this mechanism to retain the levels of both canal and road while allowing boats to pass underneath.

We were at St Mammes this day 2013. It’s on the R. Seine at the junction of the Loing river and is home to many retired boatmen some living on their barges, a shipyard a floating drydock and on the opposite bank a refueling station and barge chandlery.
