Amazing how different it looks up above compared to when you're down below. I've never seen it like this.

I was struck by how well kept it is. The road and path down to it alongside the Tingdene marina is a tad 'unkempt' with evidence of fly tipping but it improved immeasurably as you approach the lock area itself.

Credit due to Mr M. K. Charles presumably.

and the earlier sign from 7Jul2024. If the aim was to save words, then "Cooper Bridge -  No22" would be more sensible.

spacer.pngView from the mooring sign towards the 'lock'. at Cooper Bridge C+H ...

Hmmmmm, and there's the rub: it's not a lock, but just flood gates. So the answer to "Does it really take 3 days to operate the lock?" could be YES. The Calder is of course a sprightly beast and once the gates are shut to protect the lockcut from flooding, it is possible to be moored there for three (or more) days until C&RT assess that it's once more safe to open them

I think the sign is probably trying to say that to the left is lock-operation moorings, and to the right is the visitor mooring with a 3-day limit. ....

Somebody commissioned the sign, somebody designed it and sent the order to the signmakers: somebody checked it all, and somebody took it to site and connected it to its poles. ...

Sadly nobody read it. A work colleague always enjoyed every opportunity to say "We have insufficient resources to do it once. Let's not have to do it twice" _sigh_

spacer.pngHad a search for a pic of its predecessor-sign, and this is from 17Apr2014
