A couple of years ago going past there  a female of about 20 fully exposed herself to me, she was wearing a dress with nothing underneath and lifted ithe dress above her head.

I missed the ultimate classic BCN graffiti (well I think it is) I should have looked behind me before going through Colesley Tunnel.

You got a photo of it?

come out the tunnel going North and it’s this, (just got it off internet)

Has to be part of the heritage by now, surely?

A few years ago we were going through Leamington and in the front cockpit of a boat coming the other was a rathet shapely bum fully exposed hanging over the gunwhale, the lady in question was having a pee directly into the canal. She didn't stop when she saw us approaching!

yes, of course, you spotted another of my many deliberate mistakes 😃😂

and that’s one bridge I did photograph because of the tunnel entrance.
It ain’t got the wooden planks to paint on mind.

Today [9Jan2023] under the M5

now then, Stewards or Stewarts or either ?

spacer.png

Yes, from 13Nov2015, a C&RT-inherited BW paper-sign from the initiative to rush-about ensuring every bridge had a number or, equivqlently, a name on the BCN.

spacer.png

and from 2May2021 ...

spacer.png

StewartStoppage.jpg.c29135a03ca8bb0874311914a679f02c.jpg... the Stewards piece of paper having fallen off, C&RT don't seem to have re-committed to a name on-site, maybe because it's a listed structure and they don't want to glue on a new sign .... (??),  although they used Stewart in a 2022 stoppage notice.

Historic England in their official listing use Steward  here.

The Industrial Tour website uses Steward and quotes The Birmingham Canal Navigations Volume I 1768-1846. (David & Charles) (p105 in my 1974 copy) as saying that "the aqueduct was named after Steward, a prominent member of the BCN committee"

The website helpfully has some FAQ:

How long does it take to see Steward Aqueduct?

and the reply is

Seeing the aqueduct will take 10 minutes depending on how many directions you would like to view it from.

Gosh. And an even-better follow-up:

Is Steward Aqueduct suitable for a picnic?

I suppose that might depend on whether you arrive by boat. Anyway the official answer is

There is no spot to picnic at the aqueduct; however, there are adequate spots further along the Galton Valley Trail.

Well, that'a all right, then....

I have been using Stewart on Tonic, lazily following C&RT  Hmmmmm  :   Compare   21Nov2003   20Oct2005 28Aug2008  13Nov2015  23Sep2017  3Jul2018 30Aug2019  3Jul2022

The Waterways Series of maps refer to it as Stewarts. When spoken I guess it could be miss heard either way.
But I suppose we should go with the page 105?

(which also has a good footnote about the depth of cutting. I’ve been trying to visualise this past week what they had to cut through to make that mainline. Remarkable, great stuff)

Here’s another on the Aquaduct
