Whatever it is it could only be invented in the land of the 2CV. I've often thought about extending sides (or telescopic hulls) for narrowboats but I can't even stop windows leaking so I think I'll leave it for somebody else to invent.

They were made by a company called Rapido which is indeed originally a French company. Caravans like that came to the fore in times of escalating fuel prices and shortages..........   I think we can expect a return.

Rapido still exist but are now part of a multi manufacture group.

Evesham Lock River Avon. The iconic A-shaped lock cottage was in need of repair.

The Upper Avon Trust applied for planning permission to demolish that house and replace it with a low rise log cabin on stilts, but were turned down. The Upper and Lower Avon Trusts merged soon afterwards, so there was no longer the need for a lock keeper to check and sell licences at Evesham. What has happened to the house since?

It is still there, the Evesham Lock island project (https://eveshamlock.uk/) appears to be trying to restore it.

It now appears to be the Avon Navigation Trust's head office, or did a month or so back.

There's room for two boats to moor on a lovely quiet mooring here, opposite both the weir and the Lock House. One night only but I cab recommend it.

In 2008 the application proposed replacing the house with a wooden structure of, iirc, Canadian design:

... and the application showed the comparitive scale ...spacer.png

...and waterway enthusiasts were encouraged to submit objections, in pursuit of which I created a mockup of how it would look if implemented:

On Oct 7th in the past I have celebrated two of my annualy increasing number of birthdays in that pub. 2014 and 2016 from memory.

And today I am barely "celebrating" my birthday as much as possible in lockdown on the wrong side of an internal containment border that has prevented a family visit.

Croissants for breakfast and takeaway Japanese dinner ordered for tonight is a much of a celebration that can be managed within the restrictions.

Brrrr

The end of the then connected-and-navigable section of the Ashby Canal

Still the end of the connected-and-navigable section of the Ashby Canal. There are stop planks in under the footbridge due to a breach of the new section, now repaired, and ongoing seepage into the adjacent field.

The sign on the GU is looking rather sad ten years on. More like downhill to Stratford which I guess is technically correct 🤣
