Presumably the 1878 toll bridge replaced the Stanley Ferry, after which the area and the aqueduct are named.

Approaching Pillings Flood Lock RIver Soar GU Leicester Line. And as it was raining, good to see lots of advice on the river conditions ...

 

FIRSTLY it says that at this time of year the lock would have its gates shut in flood conditions. And they are open. That must be a good thing ...

SECONDLY there's a sign telling us that the Navigation is open. Another Good Thing

 

THIRDLY there are Stream Warning sign and its associated indicator board. That's well into the Green, so Another Good Thing

FOURTHLY there ase two more really B - I - G signs referring to a red light. Which is showing an unflinching RED beam. Not a sign of a flash. So it must be fine to carry on, then ...

 

I wonder if any of these indicators could ever become inconsisten with one another ... ??
