Even better the rearmost lower part of the window of the 2000 wasnt blunted like that, plus theres a D in the badge not a TC or Pi.... The colour  I think is honeysuckle yellow which I hadn't seen on a Dolomite before.

What great but rather sad pictures a narrowboat on land and a car in the water!

In 2018 at La Roche on the R. Yonne. This small mooring just below the entrance to the Burgundy canal is a peaceful spot with electricity and it’s possible to get the car near as well. Useful for some last minute painting before the winter. We didn’t know it then but this was to be our last cruise and the barge would be sold during the coming winter.

I several times used this mooring myself, an appreciated alternative to the basin at the start of the Canal de Bourgogne. In my early days there was all-night shunting on the railway lines beside the basin, plus the thunderous roar of TGV trains which went through at the time, all reasonably subdued at this nicer spot around the corner.

2000 disused lock 161.jpg

I think the old lock house belonged then to someone who kept the place in order, but it has since lapsed back into wilderness. I tried then to persuade people to join in making the old lock into a dry-dock, a sorely needed facility for those of us in the hotel-barging trade, for whom the alternative is a journey of several days to the River Seine,  (an unattractive prospect if you have suffered a damaged propellor). The cost, however, knocked this project on the head.

Thanks for sharing the old pic of Rowan, it’s made my evening. I haven’t been on the forum in years but an email arrived telling me you linked to my for sale post. I have 100’s of pictures of Rowan from when we owned her and some historic ones I gathered. Plus some branded cups that Middlewich gift shop used to sell ❤️ Miss her very much ❤️

It must have been one of the best recent advertisements for canals judging by the numbers who came out to see the boat pass, and we were lucky to have some enthusiastic CRT staff to support us.

had overhead power cables.

Bedford Railway Bridge: the half-mile walk around the twirlygigs - there's another matching one on the other side, avoids ducking-the-head on the low towingpath bridge under the railway. And the newer pedestrian bridge, then the older one upstream of the lock.
