Yes, lots of potential for confusion.

CanalplanAC's internal workings contribute to the problem. It's done in a WIKI-way, so all contributors can insert new places and define their names without, necessarily, checking with local signage or local people, as professional mapmakers would. The name of a new Place has to be globally unique, and the system only complains if an exact match (including apostrophes) is already on the database: and there's no mechanism for warning of near-misses. For example, as discussed before, FirthStreetBridge in Huddersfield is not even close to Firth Street, and the road's signed-name is Wakefield Road; also there's another WakefieldRoadBridge at Salterhebble (C+H). Much fun can be had with CanalplanAC's Quick-search for common names, which shows how common ones have additional words to make them unique.

From across the room comes the observation that only one of the Cobblers has gates. Hmmmm. You can't get the staff ....

Yes. I once planned a route via the end of the Runcorn branch, giving Waterloo Bridge as the specified location, and canalplan took me on a much longer route via the tidal Thames.

Adventure boating. I didn't know that it wasn't supposed to be possible at the time to get here in a narrowboat, so did it. Ended up bouncing along the bottom on tickover for the last couple of miles, then found that the winding hole was silted up, so had to reverse 6 miles, which took all the next day!

A photographically much-travelled pair, here at their home location Nether Heyford GU South ...

Sadly the IWA gave a photoprize (see thread here) for showing them at (a mirror-image of) a location they probably couldn't have reached, in order to promote the benefits of canal restoration. You Couldn't Make It Up.
