We hired that one in 2017.

They have done an excellent job of refitting it. I hope they have replaced the engine by now though. It took some coaxing into life in the morning. Was fine once running it was just lazy first thing.

Good boat though and easy to handle. We would hire that one again.

A timber wharf on one of the canals on the Solovki Islands in the White Sea. This section of canal was built, in part, to supply the hydro-electric station at the monastery on the island. The second photo shows a small steam boat, built in England, towing another boat on one of the canals. The islands are just below the Arctic Circle, so probably the most northerly canals in the world.

And on this day in 2021

(Some idiot left his boat in the way, so I couldn't quite repeat Peter's camera position.)

Moved my boat today, so I could recapture Peter's 1979 view:

Then someone put another boat in the way!

The Netherlands remembered: in Lemmer where we could moor in what was effectively the main street, and the massive, un-egined vessel we found ourselves behind while waiting for a lock. There was a tugboat somewhere near the other end.

More peace and quiet on the South Oxford.  What was that about slowing down to pass moored boats?  🤣

Is that the Cropredy canoe club at play?

Remarkably, one little canoe seems able to create more wash than a narrowboat.

I guess that's where they came from, we did see a large rack full of such craft when we passed through there earlier in the day.

We’re  just below Slat Mill Lock. Yes, they are from Cropredy. Good watching them going like the clappers close together. We were sat on the stern deck and got the odd sprinkling of sweet canal water.🤔
