The jetty at the end of the pier, St Anne's-on-Sea, isolated from the main pier since the last 300 feet was demolished following fire damage.

When the pier opened in 1885, the jetty was served by steamer services to Blackpool and Liverpool. Since then the Ribble estuary has sitlted up, so at high tide on 1 July, I could stand on dry sand and capture this view.20210701_164433.jpg.4c2931357d4e05aecc89906a7ae656ea.jpg

And in its heyday:

Today in 2007 on the Marne Saone canal. The canal locks were being automated but not all were finished. We had to wait in this lock until the eclusier arrived on his moped. They are called itinerant as they travel with you.

Things come and go but Wyvern Narrowboats go on for ever. Our first-ever U.K. hire boat, about 1994, was a Wyvern, and it looked just like that one

They seem to be doing a good job of it; this was our first time on a canal holiday and the tuition was good, the boat was well turned out and seemed to handle well.  Plus with my blue dress and red hair I looked very colour-co-ordinated! ;-)

Missed the date but in early July 1974 we took a load of coal to Stratford on Avon to coincide with the official reopening of the Upper Avon by the Queen mother. We had a little sponsorship  by the Solid Fuel Federation but had to sell it on the way. Real struggle to get down the canal and members of the canal society turned up to help by raising levels at the overflows. Nick Hill brought a load of grain from Sharpness and got stuck on an old weir and had to lighten the load. I was on the IWA council and was at the lock for the ceremony.

Have you been back since? From the look of those photos, I really wouldn't blame you if you hadn't.

I've not, but I would go there again. It's an urban canal, but I quite like them. The folks I met that day were fine. Assorted substance abuse and mental health issues, but friendly!
