The River Oise forms part of a chain of waterways linking Belgium with the Seine, and traffic on it is steady. The pusher pair of 38 metre barges will be carrying 600 tonnes, the same loading as on the Aire & Calder in England (had the A&C not fallen into such a state that, when it is open at all, only 350 tonne loads can be managed (Come on IWA. Do something!))

6/700 tonnes is the limit of the C du Nord currently. A new waterway, the Seine-Nord Canal, is due to replace it. reducing the number of locks  and raising the capacity to 4,500 tonnes at a time.

The yacht will be heading, no doubt, for the Mediterranean, having passed, perhaps, through the Canal de St Quentin, rather than the Nord, which is difficult for smaller craft - there  are surges within the locks, due to the way the sluices are arranged, and the handlers of ropes can be vulnerable.

I'm glad to hear someone else mention the surges. When pleasure boaters ask about the choice between the St Quentin and C.du Nord I comment on them but usually get told it's nonsense. However I have seen seen a commercial skipper taken by surprise and washed back onto the forend of the guy behind him. The C.du Nord was designed before WW1 but not finished until after WW2 of course, and was out of date from the word go.

Likewise.I also know of someone who almost lost a foot, being treated, thankfully, because of the presence of a lock-keeper (not always guaranteed in these days of automation) who called in medical attention quickly.

That apart, the Canal de St-Quentin is far more attractive, as I am sure you agree!   JL

Mine has thw Angeel of the North, a yacht, a tube train and various historical figures I do not recognise. But no canals. There must be some government office working away on such things.

Are they like Amazon do you think - do they tailor the passport pictures according to things you've searched on Google? I guess that could get to be embarrassing   ?

I did wonder if the boat pictured in mine belongs to a forum member.

It depends when they were issued. There was some discussion on here ISTR when the canal scene pages were added.

Mine was issued in 2012 (expires next year) and doesnt have these pages. I'm guessing yours was issued after that?

Edit. A search would indicate those canal scenes were actually added in 2011, I will need to double check mine.

Mine was issued in 2012 and I do have the canal picture on page 17.
