When was the [Barton Swing Aqueduct] towpath removed, and why?  Did I read something recently about a plan to reinstate it?

Consultation runs from 17th March until 16th April 2021 here. Peel says "to travel across the Manchester Ship Canal and Barton Lane pedestrians and cyclists are required to leave the Bridgewater Way and make their way along Barton Road, which is a vehicle dominated environment. What the proposals seek to do is provide an alternative, pedestrian and cycle friendly route over the Manchester Ship Canal and Barton Lane, reconnecting the Bridgewater Way... Reinstatement of the cantilever walkway along the Aqueduct"

Article doesn't have walkway closure date. Nor here but it does say the current state is a disgrace.

Won't those kinks in the approaches make things a bit difficult for the horse?

I remember that mooring well.  And right back there normally clear of the sewerage smell.

Cash's 100 houses. There were only 48 built though. Cash's being famous for ribbon weaving from name tapes in your school clothing to medal ribbons.

Yes, we navigated past them a number of times in the seventies, and first photos were not until 1989
