On this day in 2016 we were continuing our 200th anniversary trip from Leeds to Liverpool, and reached Blackburn, where we were greeted by Accrington Pipe Band. This part of East Lancashire had strong links with Scotland, in part because many of the navvies who built the canal came from Scotland. We had the largest collection of Mayors on the canal, the trip being a very effective way of influencing local authorities. The trip would not have been possible without all the volunteers, some of whom are seen here, before the evening sun set on Eanam.

... having suffered a traffic jam in Gannow Tunnel earlier in the morning.

If Kennet's crew had told anyone else in the flotilla they were having a photo opportunity at the far tunnel mouth, the rest of us would have waited in the open air.  What actually happened was the entire flotilla ended up fender to fender in the tunnel, as the lead boat just stopped at the end of the tunnel ... :)

Sorry about that, but I didn't travel on the boat, only arranged the greeting at the official stops. At least Gannow is drier than Foulridge. I was once steering a trip boat through Preston Brook when two boats got jammed in front when one came in without realising the tunnel was narrower than 14 feet. The boat in front of us just kept going at full speed, so the two boats got jammed so hard that I couldn't snatch them apart, and I had to reverse out with a party of somewhat unhappy passengers. We were about three quarters of the way through.

... while at the tail-end we provided boats-to-wave-at for one of many school greeting-parties.

I'm now wondering how many forumites were at that dinner at the Dunkenhalgh!

I know for sure we were, also @Pluto, @fanshaft, @Duck-n-Dive (who supplied the beer!)

It was quite surprising that we knew people at every single table at that event.

We are still amused that the "official Thwaites LL200 beer" was delivered in a Marston's cask and tasted remarkably similar to several other "special" beers.

The bottled Navvygator from @Duck-n-Dive was based on an 1816 porter recipe and hasn't been produced since which is a shame.
