Woke up to find this fishing match in progress, and bbq down the bank. Very nervous about starting off even though I do known some French swear words. Had a word with them and then set off very slowly to lots of bonjours and no swearing or maggots directed at us.

Misty November moring and we woke to find ourselves in t'middle of a fishing match, with one peg immediately ahead and another just behind. It was with some trepidation that we opened the hatch, fearing hitting the bloke sitting at his peg on the roof. ...

The Sambre Oise Canal in France has been closed to through traffic for 10 years. In 2012 we went with a few others On a small rally at the request of the local villages who organised the event to gain publicity for reopening. The closure is due to the subsidence of a small aqueduct. The White House is connected to Wilfred Owen who was killed here and it is the rebuilt foresters house where he was taken.

The tug-style narrowboat is interesting - firstly because of its location, and secondly because of its large number of chimneys. Perhaps a second, otherwise invisible, narrowboat was moored outside it?

Here is another shot of the narrow boat. The “chimney”behind the exhaust is actually a mast. The boat is a replica Northwich built by Davies. The owner lives (lived) in Belgium where his wife worked for the EU I believe.

The one above had been swept from the moorings upstream, towards the lock and ended on the side of the old lock cut. It had an outboard when it arrived but this was stolen. The other came down on the lock gates themselves and was later manhandled on to the side. ...

It's in an emergency that we rely on the T-stud holding. In this case its failure may have assisted in the boat staying afloat.
