When we brought the barge in Antwerp it needed some doubling to the bilge on the starboard side (apparently common problem for boats on shallow canals). The work was done in the yard Mordgat in Antwerp harbour. They have floating  docks and the big barges can only have the front or back lifted. The company specialize in propeller and rudders which they carry in stock for the regular customers. Apparently these big barges wear out the rudders due to the silt thrown up about every 5 to 6 years.

Braunston Historic Rally, Friday evening

Is that what every canal will look like on the weekend of July 4th when, so rumour has it, we shall all be allowed to go boating again?

Blue bollards are very distinctive. I'll find another pic in a mo. ...L12340.jpg.c3fec39e82a71c76a716ebbd6b353c0e.jpg

There you go. It says which navigation it is. (from 1999)

As an occasional Dawn To Dusk navigator, I was always jealous of this TNC-day here 114miles in 15.5 hours - from 2001

I presume given the sign writing it is Paper Mill lock on the Chelmer and Blackwater navigation.

Please sir, I have been through that lock.  There was an IWA at Chelmsford in the early 1970s which we attended in a trailed boat.

There will have been a good reason to take this picture at eleven minutes past three in the morning but it now eludes me.

Just because. The reflections.
