The BW sign at bottom right corner of the image warns "Disinfection procedures in-place Foot and Mouth disease control measure" The canals, but for a few urban sections, had been completely closed and when the restrictions were relaxed, there were many towingpath red carpets soaked with disinfectant so those crossing them would be less likely to spread the disease.

Tulips on our boat roof sent to us a couple of years ago by a Dutch friend as they are 'dwarf' so better at withstanding the wind when boating! This is their 2nd year, hoping to get another spring flowering out of them. So many passersby comment, hope it cheers them up in these awful times.

Ah yes, Barnes Railway Bridge in the background of #462. Did walk along to Hammersmith Bridge that day.

Its worse than that. CRT have disabled the paddle gear to the side pond and put a notice on it saying "do not use" or words to that effect.

I always made a point of using it, as as far as i am aware, it eas the last operating side po d on the system (Bratch and certain staircase flights excepted).

Yes that could be at Glascote.

L0907_20020410_0006a.jpg.47007a0e0176e114b5afb02ebead7541.jpg

There was a brief British Waterways enthusiasm for sorting out sideponds, and here is Glascote top lock having its paddle resealed in 2002. It still didn't seal properly and lots of boatcrew didn't use it properly, so BW wired up the paddlegear once more and so it is today.

The Glascote top side pond leaks into the canalside cottage when over a certain level.

I knew the previous owner of that lockside cottage, he complained to CRT and BW before thdm but it never got fully resolved despite lots of grouting.
