Figure of Three Locks on Calder and Hebble

The figure of three locks are likely to be out of action for the next year, and could be up to 18 months before they are fixed. You can get out of Dewsbury, but you'll have to take the Rochdale or the Huddersfield, however, both of these canals also have stoppages on them, although the Rochdale is due to be open by the end of April.

We walked some of the Rochdale yesterday. There is extensive damage to the brand new "improved" towpath but the canal itself looks navigable, so once Mytholmroyd is fixed it should be ok. Will try to move the boat from Hebden to Todmorden next week.

OK, we are a fair bit deeper than many boats so if we can get through it should be ok for most. A LOT of the new improved towpath has gone into the canal but looks to be confined to near the bank so that should be ok. I am more concerned about silt and gravel deposits at the various little feeder streams and possibly blocking lock gates. There is still at least one sunk boat but its well out of the channel.

Hi Dave. What draft are you please. As we are in Brighouse and need to escape soon. We are 2 ft 10 draft. Not done the Rochdale, but managed the Huddersfield narrow in September.

If going the Rochdale route you won't get through Mytholmroyd before the end of April. I did it 3 times last year in a boat drawing 3 ft. Touched the bottom a few times, but providing the levels are up you shouldn't have too many problems.

We are up to 32" static depending on the state of the water tank. There are a few places where you might struggle a bit but as David Mack says, it should be ok as long as there is water. There are a couple of feeder streams that can create a spit so get right over going past these. Going downhill through outer Manchester is a lot easier than going up as you take a lot of water with you. Littleborough to Rochdale can be slow, especially at the bridge 'oles.  And there is a real strange bit two locks down after the summit, the water is deeper at the side than in the middle. Some of the Rochdale is spectacular but the locals like to keep that a secret. (and some bits are grim).
