Dr Bob
That bit is often low isnt it? I know the volockies run down water each morning at 8am to fill those pounds.....although not sure if anyone is about this time of year. We were in the dry dock 2 pounds up last May and the water level there was not good. On the weekend after getting blacked we spent most of the time on the bottom in the pound with the dry dock. wandering snail
We were heading that way but are now stuck before the Hockley liftbridge, which isn't.

Saw the stoppage notice for that. Don’t understand why it closes the canal from King Norton stop lock to the top of the Lapworth flight though. Is there more to it than just the one lift bridge, or just a poor stoppage notice?
wandering snail
Please let it be the latter. Will ring C&RT and try to find out more.

I was wondering that as well. That lift bridge was bust a few weeks ago too.

wandering snail
Bit of a condescending message from C&RT to my enquiry; upshot is nothing to know until tomorrow. We passed a boater en route yesterday who said it was shut and that he'd informed C&RT about the problem on Saturday but there'd been no stoppage notice put up which is why we knew nothing about it! rustynewbery
The stop lock is just a feature and hasn't operated for years. Vandalism maybe, there's a lot of yoof hang around there, but in this weather I doubt it. Or have CRT put stop planks in? Any road up, it doesn't make sense

Notice issued 22nd Feb @12.10 That is the fail that I was referring too. So you are moored at the Wharf Inn, Hockney Heath and are heading into Birmingham, why are you being prevented from doing that by this stoppage if is just that lift bridge which is in the other direction. Sometimes they note the stoppage as between winding holes but that is in the case here in either direction. 1 hour ago, ditchcrawler said: Narrowboat world say the guillotine lock is damaged https://www.narrowboatworld.com/12063-gullotine Confusing, as the stop lock is not functional if seems unlikely but not impossible that something has happened there. But that would be a separate stoppage to the lift bridge at Hockley Heath surely. You don’t just close a whole canal.
BEngo
Well, if both the stop lock and bridge 26 are closed there is no way in and no way out of the section between so ithe whole canal is effectively closed. The bit in the middle (possibly copyright WRG) is therefore in an alternate CaRT reality where you can go along a bit and back a bit but you can never leave (for now). There is no checkout so Hotel California fans need not apply. N

We spoke to the boater who had informed C&RT and had rung them again on the 22nd to ask why the stoppage had not been put on the list. After that they put it on but by then it was too late for us to avoid. Edited February 24, 2020 by wandering snail

Even it there is an issue with the stop lock, there is 10 miles or so of canal between the two locations. There are many stoppages with a lot less distance than that between that the are shown as two distinct stoppages. As you say you can cruise along it between the two points, but if you obey that stoppage notice then you can move in that section.
ditchcrawler
I haven't seen any stoppage notice to say the lock is damaged, only Narrowboat World
