I really don't get this attitude. There are facebook groups specifically for many incredibly narrow special interests including cruising on the K&A, dedicated to answering questions such as the OP's. Yet "facebook is for children" seems to be an attitude prevailing amongst old people here preventing them accessing such a resource.

Nose, face, spite are words that spring to mind.

If you do facebook there's a K&A group there that will probably be able to help you.

I thought that's what this forum was for.

So how's the parking on the K&A, then? :D

Hi, can anyone give suggestions for free car parking close to the K&A between Semington and Bristol. I am ok at Semington and Bradford on Avon it’s after that onward to Bristol I’m struggling with.

There are limited places to moor once down on the river especially now mead lane in saltford is out of bounds to boaters.   So really west of Bradford looking at handful of spaces avoncliff station, few places on the road by the bridge at limpley stoke, the lay-by on the Warminster road at Dundas, and then bathampton village but there are restrictions to prevent boaters parking near the canal, the odd lay-by around Sydney gardens in bath.  Once on the river and beyond the moorings by the coach station - the next stop is bitton 48hrs accessible by the cycle track only,  think there are moorings still at keynsham at the lock.  Never been able to moor there so not sure about parking.   Pub parking at Hanham 48hrs and then on into Brizzle docks - city centre  mostly parking meters and permit holders in the centre.

Odd isn't it, I'm in a couple of highly specialised tree groups full of informed discussion, it can be a playground or it can be very useful.

Actually it can be both

Bit like in here then.

It's hardly as though all the discussion here is better than that of nine-year-olds, is it, and those objecting to FB seem to cope with it ok on here.  In fact happily take part in it on reflection.

I signed up to it about 6 months ago to access a particular site, obvs not using my real name as I do here, and clearly with a throw away email address (no it wasn't one of those sites before you start)

I was very resistant to it at first but I have found it increasingly useful, just pick the sites you follow.

Theres also a lot of amusing nonsense but that can be easily ignored if you so wish.

It's a tool just like the forum

I have some 400 friends on Facebook and reckon the average age is well into the 40's. When talking to youngsters I get the impression that very few use FB these days preferring to use more instant messaging apps such as Snapchat and Whats App

There are dozens, if not hundreds of canal related groups on FB, it is the place to go for canal pictures and news In ignoring it you are missing out on an incredibly useful  resource

You should be fine parking at Dundas, Ferry Lane (Claverton), Bathhampton near the school, and in bath its a little harder but there are quiet spots near the canal where not many cars park and the locals are friendly with boaters. (if you get my drift)

You don't have to go far from the centre of Bath to find free parking, I use a road where a friend lives close to the flight, it is up a steep hill though, ?

I know that hill, it's a monster.

Yep...this!

Facebook is increasingly belonging to the 60 plus age group while younger generations seem to be moving on to Instagram etc. ?‍♂️

I guess its not really just the 'age' thing that is the reason I don't use it, it is more the level of 'stuff' that (apparently) is talked about. "Oh , look I put odd socks on this morning" , or "here are pictures of my Breakfast"

SWMBO's phone is continuously 'pinging' where someone has tagged her, or likes her' or the second cousin of someone she met in the Bank wants to be her friend. She ignores much of it, but why bother.

The other reason is the apparent lack of security, how many millions (or was it billions) of personal details did Facebook 'lose' ?

I'm sure there are some useful groups on it but after doing a cost-benefit analysis, I'll stay clear.

There are other ways of finding out what I need to know.

Edit :

Found it, it was 50 million Facebook members, and thru them using apps, a limited amount of information for an unlimited / unknown number of 'friends' could be sourced.
