I wonder if it is one of these barges, which we spotted between Hazelford and Newark last summer

That's a rather gorgeous tug shoving it along.....

What's the staircase for on the back of the barge? Or is it on the front of the tug?

Crikey, had you just been to a string and flag sale? ;)

Yes, I have been getting a bit of stick for this contraption.  I have been building up a collection of flags and pennants over the years, and wanted to find a way to fly them all. This is Mark IB, which didn't survive contact with a low bridge on the Witham.  Here's Mark 2, in a bit of wind just north of Boston, also with the main flagpole (Fenland flag). I like flags...

What are the Police going to do ?

Rather than waiting for it to hit something, surely C&RT could send out Robin Hood or Maid Marion, they are both normally 'hanging around' in that area.

Ask it for details when it hits something?? They aren’t much use the rest of the time so I don’t see how this is any different....quite surprised theve found the Trent tbh.....

I think the steps are included in the push plate, to take account of taller or unladen hopper barges.

Maid Marrion was moored at Cromwell yesterday.

I bet Newark Marina at Farndon hope it ends up on the old power station weir.

There's a lot of potential Airfix kits tied up on the outside bend of their mooring entrance.

It has to negotiate the moorings at Fiskerton first just below the lock!

Are those big old skip barges still tied up around Hazleford Lock? Maybe it's one of them?

They were moored above the lock. I wonder if it is Selby Michael which had been moored below the Weir on the lock island for some time.

It is indeed the Selby Michael.

You would have thought Dunks would know how to tie a vessel up on a river!!

No doubt this will all be a ploy by CRT to get him to buy a river licence.......................
