Possibly I might think of re-naming MY boat Titanic?

I knew someone who named his newly acquired inflatable dinghy Titanic. At on its first trip, in Great Bridge railway interchange basin, it snagged on some sunken object and punctured!

I heard of a show house where the builder had stretched cling film across the top of the loo pan for the same reason. Which was OK until someone came to use it and the pee went everywhere.

Teaching University students for many years in two different countries was more restful and less aggressive than some of the "Drama Queens" on this forum!

Possibly I might think of re-naming MY boat Titanic? ..... But whatever I decide will be my decision, so we will end the story there!

If anyone has any "Non boat naming" comments, suggestions or advice it will be lovely to hear from you.

Thanks to all who replied (in there own way!).

Have a lovely day

Neil

Welcome to the forum!!!  :giggles:  You are far wiser than me in staying quiet until these things calm down!

This is how boaters tend to be in January.  It's cold, dark, damp and miserable.  Hardly anyone is going boating and we all get grumpy.

Out of interest, what subject did you teach?

ESL English as a second language for University students.
You said " You are far wiser than me in staying quiet until these things calm down!" Yes, I just watched from a distance whilst they all strangled each other, but it was that or Netflix!

I'm hoping to get on to the boat next Thursday or Friday.

Keep smiling and thanks ... Neil

She looks a lovely boat and I hope you have many years enjoying the canals, the forum can get a tad grumpy sometimes, more so in the winter, but it is often a useful place packed full of help, information and even occasionally kindness.

Oh and silliness as well

It is indeed and I am assured by Whilton that my "facilities" are working just fine!

I'm enjoying the vitality of this form but the weather could be a bit gentler on me!

Have a great day.

A decent tool kit, spare alternator belt, fuel filter, couple of spare glowplugs, pair of elbow length gloves,(for clearing the prop) oil can and greasgun, two bags of smokeless or wood more than you think you will use, loads of soup and tinned food, and a copious supply of Guinness. You never know when you will be held up somewhere.

Having said all that, the old adage states that the emergency you're prepared for, never happens!

Be thankful that this is an atypically mild winter: maximum daytime temperatures are going to reach the fifties all week and weekend. We have had no snow at all here in the Fens this winter; whether we've escaped it entirely remains to be seen. But, unless you like sledging and building snowmen, count your blessings.

Thankyou Tree monkey,

I certainly had a great "first 7 seconds feeling" which I have been teaching my students for years ..... we are evaluated on the first 7 seconds of contact be it personal or business, or something we see for the first time and it has to be good because we don't get a second chance!

Have a lovely day,

Neil

I'd get them to measure the portholes in the cabin for you so you can order some bungs right away. You can get them pretty cheaply on ebay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porthole-Bung-Narrowboat-Canalboat-14-17-Round-Window-Blind-Curtain-Bungs/391043187917?var=660427467520) or some people make their own / use round seat cushion pads.

The curtains look smart but you may appreciate having some extra insulation you can pop in there behind them overnight.

Hi Athy ....

Amazingly I forget what day it is today, or why I went upstairs (or was I coming downstairs?), but I do remember being very young and sliding down the hills in the snow just outside of Scarborough, Then again everything is "lovely" when you are so young!

I am happy to be back after such a long absence and looking forward to my new boat as a new adventure.

All the best to you and have a lovely day,

Neil

Wise words but I would add that if space is at a premium forget the rest but take extra Guinness.

There is another forum you might enjoy, many of us are members of both but we cant mention Thunderboat on this forum as it is considered the “dark side” as it is not moderated.

You just have!

I don't think that mentioning any other forum is against the rules.

Don’t think I’ve been to Bridlington. Have I missed summat?

went to Scarborough some years ago. My three lads went on jet skis, I was also going to have ago but realising that you have to don a wetsuit I decided not to give anyone the opportunity to take photos and send them to ‘specialist’ adult magazines.

(Ihave nothing against Scarborough except it’s not on the right side of the Pennines)

It is generaly considered by us Yorkies that Brid is the poor relative of Scarborough. Of course both VASTLY better than the slum know as Blackpool ?
