Water pump keeps coming on and calorifier banging

Hello

new to boating and not at all technically minded so please be gentle

our water pump keeps coming on randomly, this then makes our calorifier bang and eject water out of the side of the boat overflow, the only way to stop it is to turn on the sink taps and release the pressure.

we have drained the water out of the tank and refilled as one forum suggested,

we took a pressure reading from the accumulator, water tank full, all taps closed, water pump pulsing randomly for short periods the pressure was 32psi

we then took a pressure reading with all taps open pump off and it was not registering in pressure gauge

any help gratefully received xx

There's your problem, right there.

Pump it up with the taps OPEN and the pump OFF to about 25psi, and all will prolly be fine.

What pressure is stamped on the top of the pressure release valve that is running water overboard?

It is most likely 3 bar which is 45psi ish.

I would suspect it is failing, try twisting the knob on top a few time, this opens the valve and washes the seat clean, its this valve that is banging not the calorifier as it partially opens and closes. If it persists, replace it.

Check what pressure the accumulator air chamber is at with the pump off and a tap open. It should be around 20 psi at a guess ( ideally just less than the pressure that your pump cuts in at but you may not know this pressure ) Adjust with a bike pump on the schrader valve at the end which is where you check the pressure with a tyre gauge.
