Another lease being given up

Published: Friday, 27 December 2019

It might be better by water, writes T C Mapstone, who describes himself as a disillusioned 20 years boat owner.

Bridgwater DocksBut if CaRT continues in the way it is going such as auctioning of wharfs, canal side land and giving up leases there will be nowhere left by water, let alone on it for what boaters of us that may be left.

Bridgwater Docks

The writer tells us that Bridgwater Docks on the Bridgwater & Taunton Canal is to be lost as Canal & River Trust has announced it won’t be renewing its lease once it expires in July 2020, telling it was unable to commit to the cost of maintaining the docks in the long term.

Somerset County Council reports that it is committed to finding alternative ways of managing the docks, hoping that a  community group will take over.

 Hi

I was so disappointed when I heard that the lease for Bridgwater Docks is being tendered. I have been trying for months to apply for a mooring at Bridgwater Docks but keep getting pushed from pillar to post because of proposed transfer of lease next month (July 2020). Somerset County Council cannot advise me nor the canals trust, one just keeps referring me to the other.  I have found the boat I want as a live aboard  but everything is now on hold & really want to get things moving. I currently live & work locally but can't seem to get any joy.

Also can't get any advice on cost of moorings for 60ft wide beam at Bridgwater docks or if one even available . Please can anyone advise?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Dawn
