You need to make a small hole in the fat end of the egg.  There is an air space there that causes the egg to crack as it expands. Only needs a small hole ; I usually poke it with the point of a pointy knife but a pin will suffice.

Fresh eggs are one of those things that can't be beat.

In a similar  vein, I used to grow fresh corn and asparagus, picked and straight in the pan.
