Dav and Pen
No need to worry about moving narrow boats. 44m from Strasbourg to Macon. To big for the canal route.
Athy
When the French say "exceptionnel", they aren't joking! I think it's a bit more than 44 miles though - more like 300. That should cause ample traffic chaos half way across France.

At least I hope it's the same load - crikey, don't tell me there are two of them.
Dav and Pen
Yes it’s 44 meters long but I don’t know the width. The canal route between the two places is max 38 meters.
Athy
So, as it won't fit the 38-metre-long Freycinet locks, where will it go when it arrives in Macon? Up and down the Saone and the Rhone?

There’s lots of pushers and 110meter barges plus small coaster getting up as far as the St Jean de Losne silos on the river Saone now as well as some of the big river cruise boats. If the big plan to link the Rhine and the Rhône had come off in the 60’s then this barge would have been on the water not the road.

blackrose
That French boat move looks a bit more extreme than mine. At least my boat fit into a motorway lane and under a garage forecourt canopy!
