I think it is maybe 44 metres (being foreign like)

That would make sense, yes.

Here we go!

A bit of google-fu gives the answer.

...and in fact there's a photo on their web site of that same load in a different location. At least I hope it's the same load - crikey, don't tell me there are two of them.

So, as it won't fit the 38-metre-long Freycinet locks, where will it go when it arrives in Macon? Up and down the Saone and the Rhone?

There’s lots of pushers and 110meter barges plus small coaster getting up as far as the St Jean de Losne silos on the river Saone now as well as some of the big river cruise boats. If the big plan to link the Rhine and the Rhône had come off in the 60’s then this barge would have been on the water not the road.

...... and ironically it was the Green Party that scuppered that plan.

My dad had to drive Hamilcar gliders from base to base during the war and he used to speak of zig-zagging down the road to avoid the lamp posts.

Was that the excuse which he gave to the police?

Yes it’s 44 meters long but I don’t know the width. The canal route between the two places is max 38 meters.

Must be around 20 feet, using the width of the truck as a guide.
