Hi, advice please. What is the best way to go about making a coloured grout? Starting from a white grout, what colour can be added, paint, colour/dye?

You can buy coloured grouts at the tile shops.

Mortar dye works but its a bit coarse and very intense in colour..

I would stick to using proper coloured grout as Sam suggests. If you mix your own, you can't be sure what shade it will dry to or whether the colour will fade over time. Most tile shops have swatches that match the cured grout colour. Take a tile to the shop and see which colour works best with it.

I’m with you on using proper grouts. Having looked at the surprisingly limited colour options available to us here, and having mixed up a trial batch to show the management, guess what?

MrsS has agreed that a plain grey will look fine in between old terra cotta tomettes.
