Can anyone recommend a good vet in crick / Rugby area.

We woke this morning to a poorly dog so need to get him to see a vet, I've done an online search and there are loads to choose from in Rugby alone. Being fairly new to the area we have not registered with a vet yet so looking for good feedback, thanks.

The vets at Hillmorton are part of Medivet who have a 24 hr place in Leamington should the need arise (highly recommended by me from personal experience)

The vets at Weedon also have a 24hr call place in Towcester (no experience of them)

If it is going to be your 'home' vets I'd suggest ensuring that 24 hr cover is provided in some way that you are happy with and suits your location the best.

Thanks all, Panic over, we managed to get him seen at Rainsbrook at Hillmorton. very impressed with the vet we saw :)

Follow up check tomorrow but just looks like a dodgy tummy. Pets don't half worry you sometimes.

On a wider note though, how do you cope when liveaboard cc'ing. We are wintering near Crick but intend to cruise all next summer possibly to the k &a.

We still have our vets at "home" where we get their regular check ups during visits to family but need something when moving around.

We did look at at pets4vets as they appear to be national with centres in pets at home branches but their online revue's are pretty poor.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

All of this, of course, depends where the OP is actually moored. We have registered with vets all over the country which is not an issue apart from the initial examination they insist on doing at great expense. Touch wood, mainly for getting worming and flea stuff. Had both dogs neutered in Burton, stitches removed in Armitage, one had a knee operation in Nantwich. So, all is possible.

Good

As for CCing, it's hit and miss. All vets will will treat the dog but sometimes there is a delay in getting any needed medical records sent through. If there are long term issues or anything you can think of that might cause a delay to treatment ask the vet to provide a paper copy of each treatment. As always computer systems are great as long as they either 'talk to themselves' or a human makes them 'talk'! Having a vet that is part of a larger network can also be helpful in reassuring the practise that you are not going to run off without paying the bill - not everyone views boaters as upstanding people...

Before we were live aboard, when we used to holiday on our old shared ownership, we set off one time and realised that we had not brought the dogs steroids with us (bit of a life or death need).  Phoned a vets in Stone, who phoned our vets in Worcester, and by the time we moored up two hours later, they had a prescription waiting and ready.

A bit of planning ahead with things like this, and you can get sorted...
