Dharl
We are moving base from Wigrams Turn up to Wrenbury Mill next year. Would appreciate if any one who is based there now, or has been in the last few years could provide some feedbck on mooring there, as well as details on good locla pubs and some mooring spots worth checking out? thanks in advance,
Pie Eater
Have a look at the Shropshire Union Canal Society webpage under Society Documents and click on visitor moorings.
Cheshire cat
There are two pubs adjacent to the marina. The Dusty Miller is a Robinson's House that had a good reputation for the standard of its food. Unfortunately the chef who was behind the reputation has moved on. No idea what the replacement is like. The other pub, The Cotton Arms is the other local pub and has had a change of licensee over the summer. Food and drink were acceptable when we were in there in August. The standout pub in the immediate vicinity is the Bhurtpore Inn at Aston. Numerous Camra awards and decent meals including curries. It's around 1.5 miles from the Wharf. There are visitors moorings at Wrenbury but when we were at Wrenbury Mill on our shared boat all the shared boats were moored stern against the Wharf along with all the hire boats. Loading and unloading couldn't have been easier although setting off was sometimes a little tricky.
Victor Vectis
Are there still plans for a big marina there, on the other side of the canal from the mill?
Cheshire cat
It took a bit of digging on Cheshire East Council's website but no, the plans were withdrawn in 2014. Interestingly, one of the reasons for refusal given by the planning committee was damage done to local roads by the vehicles used to remove excavated soil in the construction of the marina. I. can't see that holding much sway with HS2 Edited November 6, 2019 by Cheshire cat To aid clarity

Back in the day they would have taken it away by barge. Now there’s an idea!

The marina staff apparently were very helpful and looked after the turn round procedures efficiently. At that time - around 2007 - there were a number of Ownerships boats based there and I think we did consider it as a base but chose Norbury junction instead. We have eaten at both the Dusty Miller and the Cotton Arms and found them both very good. We have called there a number of times over the years and the only minor niggle is the swing bridge which can cause minor congestion at busy times which might make leaving the marina awkward, especially if turning right. Enjoy your new base. Howard
manxmike
Some years ago we broke down at Wrenbury and the guys from the workshop couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. They did a temporaray fix until we got back to our mooring at Venetian and even pointed out that our starter battery and leisure battery had been swapped which was causing half the problem. Brilliant people with an excellent shop!

Brilliant people with an excellent shop! We also had need to use the workshops unexpectedly and the guys there were brilliant. Also a vote for the Cotton Arms but don't know what the new landlord is like. Its a good walk over to the Bhurtpore and well worth it.

I do hope that your boat which you are going to Wrenbury with is not the one in your avatar, it will not get up Hurleston locks even now that they are repaired and widened. I had a deal going to buy the land in Wrenbury for a marina but had to abandon it because the local planning were finding any excuse to refuse permission.
