carlgulliver
Hey, after spending over a year living in a twin axle caravan while trying to save for a nice canal boat I am starting to get a little impatient and was curious if anyone knows of any long term residential canal boats that could be hired either in the Staffordshire or Warwickshire area? The boat will not be koved just simply used as a liveaboard? Any info would be great as I am struggling to find anything through google. Escape the rat race https://www.etrr.co.uk/boat/-11 Problem is they don't come with a mooring so you would need to move every 14 days. I guess you could hire one and then find a marina and pay for a mooring there. Be VERY careful about hiring a boat from a non specialist boat hire place - 'normal 'private boats DO NOT meet the legal requirements for hiring, do not have a hireboat licence, no Landlords gas & electricity safety certificates and will not have the correct insurance. If the worst did happen you and your possessions would have no protection. Edited November 3, 2019 by Alan de Enfield
carlgulliver
Thank you I will have a look at that website. How much do you think it would cost for the boat hire plus a residential marina as I'm still new to all this. Thanks

Thanks £1000 per month for the boat hire. £3000-£4000 per annum for a mooring

PLEASE don't be tempted to do a 'private deal' with a boat owner. It will end in tears. There was one last year where a woman lost everything she owned and was also blamed by the owner for sinking his boat. No (correct) insurance etc etc.

carlgulliver
Thank you guys for your input. No I didnt realise it was that expensive to hire a boat as I'm used to caravan pitch rent and obviously I own my caravan. Maybe it would be better saving up and buying a boat outright as it would work out cheaper as I'm currently paying £6,000 in pitch fees for my caravan so yearly it would be cheaper once the boat has been paid for. The wait can be frustrating but it's worth it in the end. How about sell 'van, buy boat? I guess it depends on the value of your caravan.
