Mrs Trackman
According to the EA guage looks as though the Trent at Shardlow has got to the lowest it's going to for a while without coming out of the red. Currently in Shropshire (which is probably the Severn and not the Trent catchment) and it's rained all night. What a winter!

The ice in Burton Waters was 12 inch thick at the edges and an expensive Italian cruiser had to be cut free from the ice and craned out round on B pontoon as the ice had squeezed the hull and cracked it. From memory it was about 14 weeks we were stuck on our mooring with the floods and ice. I just have a hunch it will be similar this winter. 1

That's the year I bought Joyce the current boat and traded in Smee the old boat. It was bought in Nov and collected in January! when the ice finally melted. We used to go down for the weekend to stay on her frozen solid at mercia marina. Ralf the old manager of the new and used boat company was a total arse wanted me to crane her out and transporte her to rotherham! 18 inches of ice how was she supposed to get to the crane point? And that's why he is the ex manager and Ian is the new one. ?

We were free from the ice well before most of our friends boats. Liam broke some of them out using our old green plastic dinghy as an ice breaker. Can remember it well.

Is that below the town? How did the town get on ? One has to ask if the pointy doors worked, if the Witham & Skirth were at the same level? I suppose what I am asking is, was it just run off, held back by the two town bridges and lack of dredging above them or was Witham water contributing. I wound suspect a combination of both.

Flooding thru the bank again yesterday - the EA were in attendance with a big tracked-dumper, an excavator and 100's of tonnes of soil trying to build the bank back up. The North Kyme to Billinghay road was flooded to the depth of several inches but still passable.
Mrs Trackman
From EA levels, appears Trent may finally be going down. Still high and running fast through Nottingham.
Richard T
For those interested CRT have today opened Cranfleet flood gates. However the Trent has still go a relatively high flow so procede with caution. If going upstream from Beeston to Cranfleet remember that there is a narrowing of the river below Cranfleet where the current speed increase so don't thrash your engine and have some power in hand. On our boat it takes an increase of between 500 and 750 rpm to maintain the same cruising speed through the narrowing. Above all else boat safely.

Will see how much it's dropped on Wednesday before deciding. Still be a good flow on though.

Should be quick then....probably best to get moving before the weekend as that's when the Atlantic systems start again after this welcome respite.......it is also looking slightly more like we might get some proper Winter weather from the 10th onwards

Now moored below Hazelford so an easy run to Newark this morning. Yes, quite a flow still with a surprising amount of pull towards the weirs until you are right into the lock cuts. Not so easy picking lock worker (Jeannette) up at exit when wearing several layers of clothing and as life jacket.

Came back up yesterday but got stuck at Alwarke lock the day before on rubbish before the lock entrance, so it appears that its still a bit risky for deep drafted boats like the exol pride
